OK, so it's three years since I posted anything! A lot of blogs are like that, unfortunately.
However, in that time I have found cousins in Devon and Tasmania and I now know the name of the fighter pilot who shot down my uncle in 1944.
Against that, I still don't know anything about the German background of Frederick Albert Seume, who, on arriving on these shores on the 12th December 1834, started the UK line of the family.
The search goes on; although I'm still trying to work out why it is so important for so many people to find out about their past.

Just wishing any Seumes who read this a happy and prosperous 2006; maybe this is the year we all find 'new' cousins, however distantly related.

It looks like, by chance, we might already have found the information which tells David (US) which of his forebears first left Germany for the States! Check out my comment on the previous post.

I know that Frederick Albert Seume was the first of my family to come to the UK but I'd dearly like to know more about his father, Christian; who were his parents, siblings, etc?

Only a few weeks ago, I was surprised and delighted to get an e-mail from my namesake in Kansas City, Missouri, USA.
I hope David will be able to find out enough about his family's origins to work out how we might be related.

For many years we have been researching the history of the Seume family in the UK since Frederick arrived here in 1834. Recently, Seumes from Europe and the USA have made contact through our website, www.seume.net.

So far, we have no idea whether we are related to any of these new correspondents. Perhaps the best way forward now is for all interested Seumes to work together!

Maybe we will find new cousins in other countries, which would be exciting.

In the first instance, I will moderate all comments, as blogs are notorious for attracting unwelcome visitors who only want to draw attention to their own websites and products. Hopefully, it will become possible to register true Seumes and interested friends so they can post their own messages.

Who knows whether this will work; let's give it a try!
